As of tomorrow, I will be an associate attorney with a real law firm, one that happens to be a Big Deal in insurance litigation (which is exactly what I want to do). I AM SO BEYOND EXCITED RIGHT NOW. *falls over*
This calls for a new LJ tag. Good-bye forever, "future career." The future is NOW!
I always think of things I want to write in LJ about, but then when writing time arrives, I'm all like . . . eh.
One job rejection, the other one has not returned my call. We will see, on that front. I'm incredibly torn right now--do I keep doing what I'm doing and apply for jobs, do I go 100% with the law firm, or do I change careers? No one has an answer for me, but I wish someone did.
We all know I have a short fuse, but you will all be SO PROUD to know that not only have I bitten my tongue on political rants (until I know I can write them kindly enough to be part of my series of helpful tips for liberals--because yes, I'm often interested in improving the quality of the debate more so than winning it. No, I'm not joking, either. I honestly think it might help someone to understand how the other side perceives them) but I have even not gotten involved in DRAMA. Seriously. I want to OH SO BADLY, but I know it would just be bad, and I'm listening to that little voice telling me to STAY OUT. So, yeah. I'm happy about that.
We went to a Flyers preseason game last night. I love our new defense like whoa, but Ray Emery? Not a fan yet. I want Marty back.
I need a Halloween costume, but I'm am poor and don't have the time to make one. I wore my Prince of Tennis track suit last year, so that's out. I guess I could wear my Bleach shinigami kimono.
Does anyone have a Wilton sports ball cake pan they could lend me? I want to make a specific cake for the Halloween party (Saturday, Oct. 24, if you are in the area! More details to come later), but I don't want to go out and buy something I may only use once. I will pay shipping :)
Even as written in 2004, this is equally applicable today. I've been saying for ages that authors should be more creative with their vampires (and urban fantasy settings in general, really).
Oh, Twilight. (somehow, that is not as much fun as "Oh, Japan." I think that's because I love Japan, but not Twilight)

"Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Thursday that after a wildly successful run, the cash for clunkers program will close on Monday, August 24th at 8 p.m. ET. “This program has been a lifeline to the automobile industry, jump starting a major sector of the economy and putting people back to work,” Secretary LaHood said. “At the same time, we’ve been able to take old, polluting cars off the road and help consumers purchase fuel efficient vehicles.” LaHood said the Monday night end will allow dealers and buyers plenty of time to finalize purchases and submit applications for rebate from the remainder of the $3 billion provided by Congress. Based on conservative estimates of valid transactions so far, DOT analysts projected there is enough money to continue accepting submissions until the Monday deadline."
I actually thought this would have been a great program had people put a little more thought into the implementation--and the people and vehicles that qualify. My 1991 Buick Park Avenue doesn't qualify (pieces are falling off of it and there are rust holes in the back, but no, it's not a clunker. Of course not) because it gets 19 mpg instead of the 18 mpg cutoff. But, some vehicles as new as 2004 do qualify. So yeah. Great idea, but it doesn't help me in the slightest. I mean, yes, the environment was supposed to be the main beneficiary of this program, but it also would have been nice if people with old cars that don't sufficiently destroy the environment got a break out of it as well. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get me a brand new Chevy Malibu. Sigh.
(I'm feeling particularly ranty today, sorry...)
For the record, though, without the so-called "public option," I am significantly more in favor of the bill. I still don't really like it, though. WAY too complicated. Simplify things--it will cost less and be more effective.
*wibble*
Wow.
State Farm told me that they use the actual cash TRADE-IN value of the vehicle according to NADA to determine how much we would get back for Josh's car. The woman, who was very nice, insinuated that is PA law. The value happens to be $3475. We panicked. That would mean we are royally screwed, unless we can get something in court.
Well, I just went and read the statue. The PA Code CLEARLY STATES that replacement value (not trade-in value) should be used. So . . . yeah. I'm going to call the Insurance Department tomorrow to check, but I am suspicious. I've been very happy with State Farm so far, but we are poor enough that I will fight for every penny.
Could you all maybe do me a favor? What are some questions you might have about IP law? Well, particularly trademarks and copyrights, but anything, really. I need to have 15-20 a week, so if you have any questions now, or you think of any at any point, could you let me know here, on Facebook, or through email? I will answer your questions in 125+ words for free, although I cannot give legal advice :)
Ugh. I keep completing a bunch of small things instead of finishing one or two big things. No attention span! Is it possible to develop adult onset ADHD?
This laundry needs to get folded/ironed/put away, and I have GOT to get the dining room table cleaned off. I also need to get some stuff listed for sale at various places.
Tomorrow's goals: Cavel on eBay, laundry. There, I'm only setting a small number of goals.
I've finally recovered from my migraine, though. I was blah for most of the day. I seriously considered not going to work, but I was already scheduled for overtime, and I knew we would get hit hard due to a testing error over the weekend. Technically I can go in early tomorrow as well, but no, thanks. I may work some overtime again tomorrow night just for the money, but we'll see if it's offered. We did a great job today, but I bet e-mails will come in all night.
I'm so done right now.
But yeah, I'm trying to be productive tonight. Not going so well, but I'm making some progress.
Oh my gosh ya'all, the virus alert for iTunes yesterday was driving me nuts. Good to know I can listen to my music again now.
. . . when I make a To Do list.
- Fold laundry
- Put laundry away
- Thank you cards
- Cook dinner
- Sell things (manga and BJD on eBay, computer on Craigslist, and BJD accessories on DoA)
- Squidoo site for The Oxford Comma
- Post Craigslist ad for website designer
- Research for potential clients
- Clean dining room
- Clean bedroom
- Clean living room
- Make hummus
- Put away the rest of the groceries
EDIT: I'm awful at doing things on lists. I keep starting one thing, and then moving to something else before the first thing is finished.
Man, if I could eat Chipotle right this second, I might feel so much better. Stupid turnpike, stupid Willow Grove, stupid not being able to walk to Chipotle. HMPH.
I'm going to pout about it now.
I have temporarily sold my kimono, so . . . things are moving along. I will talk to my boss tomorrow about going part-time. In the meantime, I need a website.
THINGS ARE HAPPENING.
